APC adopts voice-vote for congresses in Cross River

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State has adopted voice votes in its local government congress in the state.

In the congress monitored by DAILY POST on Saturday, the contestants for different positions in the executive who were elected by delegates through a voice vote emerged unopposed including the state chairman.

Before the voting, a legal practitioner, Mr Owah Owah, moved a motion for the dissolution of the previous executive members of the state party.

Mr Godwin Etim-John was re-elected as the state party chairman, while Mr. Martins Achadu was elected as the deputy chairman.

Also, Mr Ernest Eki was elected as the Vice Chairman, Central, while Mr. Francis Ekpeyong and Mr. Mike Agbe were elected as Secretary and Treasurer respectively.

Secretary of the Congress Committee, Mr. Reginald Uwakwe, congratulated the new officials and charged them to carry all party officials along in their activities.

Uwakwe also charged them to work very hard with a view to having the party win over Cross River in the 2019 gubernatorial election.

However, the newly elected state chairman declined speaking to journalists shortly after his election at the Cultural Centre.

On her part, a party chieftain, Sen. Florence Ita-Giwa, called on all APC members in the state to be united and peaceful in their conduct especially as it concerns party affairs.

She said: You cannot win elections in disarray, the problem the APC has is that a lot of people have inept self interest.
All the factions must embrace each other and come together so that they can win in Cross River state.

“There can only be one leader at a particular time, if you lose now ,you can win tomorrow, APC is no longer that baby of yesterday it growing ,more people must be given the opportunity to join with a bid to forming a formidable force that can win elections,” she said.

Reacting, the Vice-chairman Central, Hon Cletus Obun said, “There is no way state congress would have held in the state because as at 12 noon materials have not arrived the state.

“Besides, chapter congresses were yet to be concluded in some local government area including Yakuur and Yala.

“It is a unfortunate that some people gathered at Cultural Centre, Calabar on Saturday and conducted what is called a kangaroo congress while we were still waiting for the list of some officers who are supposed to be delegates in the said congress.

“It is a charade and a complete sham and has nothing to do with the state congress. Anybody supporting it is simply orchestrating APC crisis. I cannot imagine while the contestants to the state offices are still with their teller waiting to buy the forms, some people went ahead to conduct congress. It sounds ridiculous.

“Even the appeal panel was not set up to look into the grievances and then you suddenly woke up and announced to the world that you have conducted state congress. This is impunity of the highest level.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the Congress Committee, Hon. Useni Adamu, said that there were in the state to conduct a transparent and fair election for new officers in the state chapter of the party.
