  Fashion entrepreneur and author, Laura Ikeji has gushed about her relationship with her husband, Ogbonna Kanu. The mum of one who is probably yet to accept the fact that she’s married to the man of her dreams narrated how they were best of friends who never thought they could get married. Laura Ikeji shared a throwback picture of the both of them together as she stated that they were both in different relationship then. She said she would have doubted had it been someone told her then she was going to marry him. Gushing about how things turned out, she wrote on Instagram: “This picture was taken September 2014. 2019: Buhari names Festus Keyamo campaign spokesperson

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed a senior Nigerian lawyer as the head of communications and strategy for his 2019 re-election bid. The appointment of Festus Keyamo was conveyed via an April 16 letter signed by Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transport and director-general of the Buhari Campaign Organisation. Mr Buhari announced last week Monday that he would seek reelection, shortly before departing for London. The news of the appointment comes a day after Mr Buhari told British Prime Minister Theresa May that he was more concerned about governance than the 2019 elections. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, prominent for his rights activism, Mr Keyamo remains one of the most vocal voices backing the Buhari administration since 2015. He is expected to make a formal statement about his appointment soon.

Kidnappers release Ibadan chief’s twins after N10m ransom

​ The abducted twins of the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, Dr. Lekan Balogun, have been released by suspected kidnappers who seized them and their mother in front of family house in Akobo area of Ibadan last week. Their mother was later dropped at a spot, while the abductors contacted the family with a ransom demand of N100m. The sum was reduced to N40m at the weekend, before it was eventually slashed to N10m on Monday. Balogun is one of the Ibadan high chiefs that were elevated to the position of monarch by the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, before the action was annulled by a court in Ibadan. Balogun said the N10m ransom was paid before the children were released. Confirming the release to our correspondent, Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the Police was making frantic efforts to apprehend the suspected kidnappers. Senate confirms NERC, NHRC bosses

​   The Senate has confirmed the appointments of Mr. Anthony Okechukwu Ojukwu as Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, and Prof. James Momoh as Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.   The appointments were confirmed at the plenary on Tuesday.   President Muhammadu Buhari had nominated Ojukwu and Momoh for the positions and sought the approval of the Senate for the appointments.   The Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters recommended Ojukwu for confirmation, while the Committee on Power, Steel Development and Metallurgy okayed Momoh’s appointment.   The Senate had on February 28, 2018, resolved to investigate Ojukwu’s resumption without legislative approval.   Senator Dino Melaye had alleged that the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), had “affronted and confronted” the powers of the Senate by asking the nominee to resume duties.   Melaye had said, “If

Tanzanian flood: Death toll rises to 14

Fourteen people have died as a result of days of torrential rains and flooding in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s economic capital, police said Tuesday. “The balance sheet has worsened. This morning, we have reached 14 killed,” city police chief Lazaro Mambosasa told reporters. The number killed has been slowly rising as heavy rains have continued to hit the East African nation since the weekend. On Monday, Dar es Salaam regional commissioner Paul Makonda ordered primary schools closed for two days and advised families to leave inundated areas in a bid to limit the loss of life.

Osinbajo in Lagos, plays basketball

​ Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was videoed playing basketball in Lagos during a visit to the state on Tuesday. Several coloured balls were handed to the vice-president during his visit to a tech company in Lagos and he aimed the balls at the basketball net hung some feet above him. He failed to get the balls in a few times, but his entourage cheered when he finally got some of the balls into the net. IDPs stone Nasarawa governor

Internally Displaced Persons on Tuesday stoned the convoy of Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, who was in Obi Local Government Area for assessment visit to some of the IDP camps and other affected villages. The aggrieved campers stoned the governor’s convoy in Agwatashi. The PUNCH correspondent, who was on the entourage of Governor Al-Makura, observed that many Tiv nationalities in Nasarawa State have deserted their homes in Obi, Awe, Domain and Keana LGAs, while about 100,000 persons are currently taking refuge at the LG headquarters and other villages in the affected local governments. The IDPs, who were protesting the killing of their relations by people believed to be Fulani herders, said they could no longer bear the incessant attacks on their communities, expressing worry that the bodies of their relations killed by the attackers had not been recovered. Neymar out of action until at least May 17

Brazilian superstar Neymar said Tuesday that he won’t be back playing at least until the second half of May, when he is scheduled to have his final medical exam following foot surgery. “The last exam is on May 17 and from there I will see,” the Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil forward told a press conference in Sao Paulo.

NYSC: Orientation camp for 2018 Batch ‘A’ to commence April 19

The National Youth Service Corps, will on Thursday, April 19, commence Orientation Course for the 2018 Batch ‘A’ service year. The scheme made the announcement on its official Facebook page and Twitter handle;  officialnysc  and   nysc_ng  respectively. It urged all Prospective Corps Members who have been mobilised for the service year to ensure they adhere to all instructions on their call-up letters. “Congratulations for a successful mobilisation into the NYSC.
